Position Summary

Kootenay Family Place is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to oversee the delivery of high-quality early learning and childcare programs across our licensed childcare centres. As a member of the KFP senior management team, the Director of Childcare Programs is responsible for organizational leadership, program quality, regulatory compliance, recruitment, budgeting, family partnerships, and the overall operational success of each site.

This multi-site leadership position is ideal for a values-driven professional with strong knowledge of early childhood education and demonstrated management experience.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all childcare program locations.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for all matters related to childcare (e.g., external funders, licensing authorities, parents/guardians).
  • Ensure programs align with organizational philosophy, licensing standards, and early learning frameworks.
  • Supervise and support childcare program managers.
  • Implement quality assurance processes, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Human Resources & Team Development

  • Support childcare program managers with recruitment, onboarding, and retention of qualified educators and support staff.
  • Promote professional learning and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
  • Address staffing concerns, scheduling challenges, and performance matters as required.

Finance & Administration

  • Assist with budget planning, fee reviews, and financial accountability for each site.
  • Monitor expenditures, resource allocation, and compliance with funding and grant requirements.

Skills

  • Strong management skills, including the ability to lead, support, and supervise staff; prioritize workloads; make sound decisions; and ensure work is completed effectively, on time, and in alignment with organizational policies.
  • Strong knowledge of licensing regulations, child development, inclusive practices, and trauma-informed care.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, reporting, and operational planning.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Care, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience in a unionized setting within childcare, health, social services, or a related field.
  • Valid BC driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
