The Alberta Medical Association is currently recruiting for an Administrative Support to join our Physician Locum Services Team. This is a temporary position with a six‑month term, with the potential for extension.

The AMA has a hybrid work environment. The successful candidate will be based out of our Edmonton office and will have the opportunity to work from home but will be required to go into the office or attend in person when required.

Team Overview

The AMA PLS, a physician retention initiative of the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), Alberta Health and Wellness (AHW) and the Rural Physician Action Plan (RPAP), administered by the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), is dedicated to providing replacement locum-physician services in rural Alberta for family physicians and regional centers for specialists. The program is designed to be responsive to physicians taking leave for balanced lifestyle.

Position Overview

Reporting to the PLS Director, this position provides administrative assistance to the PLS team as they coordinate locum physician assignments within Alberta.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make travel arrangements for locum physicians
  • Record travel expenses to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement
  • Assist with coordination of locum assignments
  • Support the recruitment process for new locum physicians
  • Perform accurate filing and data-entry in support of the program's activities
  • Ensure necessary documentation is complete to allow locums to practice
  • Process mail, respond to incoming calls and inquiries for the program, and order supplies
  • Take on additional challenges as needed in our team environment
Education and Experience
  • A one-year post-secondary certificate in office administration or a related discipline at minimum
  • At least two years of administrative experience
  • Experience working with Office 365, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is required. Experience working with a database program is an asset
Skills
  • Fully able to work effectively in a virtual environment (Zoom, MS Teams)
  • The ability to problem-solve and handle multiple, shifting concerns with professionalism and diplomacy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have a professional telephone manner
  • A team-player who can also work independently when required

The salary for this role is between $47,657 - $61,953 per annum
