Role Overview/Purpose:

Reporting to the Mine Manager, Open Pit, the Mine Operations Superintendent, Open Pit will provide leadership and direction for day-to-day mining operations and attain production objectives and targets for ore and waste in a safe and cost-effective manner. The Superintendent will develop and oversee mining operations practices, policies and procedures with accountability for costs, productivity, safety, environmental compliance and employee morale.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead execution of all open pit operations to achieve production targets in a safe, environmentally sound, and cost-effective manner, in accordance with good mining practice.
• Actively participate in the operational planning process.
• Implement and maintain the current mining plan including mining, drill and blast, and projects.
• Maintain compliance with corporate, government and site-specific policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Develop and implement changes necessary to improve productivity and lower production costs.
• Partner with Mill/Process, Engineering and Maintenance Departments.
• Work closely with safety and environmental departments to ensure that training requirements are met.
• Ensure that safety incidents are investigated, notification procedures and protocols are followed, and recommendations implemented. Take corrective action where necessary to address non-compliance.
• Develop and manage direct reports and ensure they understand their work and their roles.
• Provide direction and encouragement for all mining operations employees to develop to their maximum potential and contribute to the overall success of Magino.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

• Tertiary qualification in mine engineering desirable but not required.
• Valid G Class Driver's License (Required) with clean abstract.
• 10+ years of mining experience with 5+ years supervisory/leadership experience in a large open pit mining environment. Experience working in a new mine construction environment highly desirable.
• Must have a strong understanding of mining techniques, equipment, materials, and procedures.
• Knowledge of drilling and blasting activities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledgeable in related computer applications and proficient in their use.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to optimize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.
• Must be able to lead employees toward achieving individual, team, and company goals while building a strong team culture.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong attitude towards safety is an essential requirement.
• Strong computer skills.
• Proven experience managing special projects and sub-contractors.
• Must be field oriented and able to work in mining environments.
• May be required to work additional hours and/or additional shifts, as directed by Mine Manager
• May be required to perform duties outside the regular scope of this position, as directed by Mine Manager

Working Conditions:

• The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 14 days on and 14 days off (12-hour days).
• Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
