About Island Gold District:
Alamos Gold's Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Purpose
Responsible for designing and delivering practical and theoretical training programs for mobile & Stationary equipment maintenance personnel.
Safety And Sustainability Expectations
Ensure all mechanics, apprentices, and technicians have the skills, knowledge, and safe work practices required to maintain and repair mobile & stationary equipment. Function as a technical mentor, competency assessor, and training resource to support maintenance excellence and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Training and Development
- Deliver training on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and component rebuilds for mobile equipment (bolters, drills, LHDs, trucks, scissor decks).
- Deliver training on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and component rebuilds for Stationary equipment (Shaft Hoists, Conveyances, rock-breakers, ug crushing plant pumps & ventilation fans, etc.).
- Provide on-the-job coaching and mentoring in underground environments.
- Support new hire onboarding and orientation.
- Develop and maintain training materials, SOPs, and visual aids.
- Assess and verify competencies against internal and OEM standards.
Maintenance Standards and Best Practices
- Collaborate with Maintenance Superintendent and Reliability Engineer to standardize PM procedures and inspection checklists.
- Train diagnostic tools, torque specifications, and hydraulic/electrical testing.
- Promote contamination control, proper tooling, and safe lifting techniques.
- Reinforce accurate work order feedback and SAP PM usage.
Continuous Improvement and Reliability
- Identify training gaps and develop improvement plans.
- Support root cause analysis with technical insight.
- Provide input on skill deficiencies affecting reliability.
- Recommend updates to PM strategies based on field observations.
Compliance and Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate training records in LMS or equivalent.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and OEM requirements.
- Support audits and inspections related to training and competency.
- Participate in refresher training and re-certifications
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (or equivalent).
- Post-secondary diploma in mechanical technology (asset).
- Train-the-Trainer certification preferred.
- Valid underground common core and mine safety training.
- 7–10 years maintaining underground mobile equipment in mining.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems.
- Experience mentoring apprentices or delivering technical training.
- Familiarity with OEM systems (Sandvik, MacLean, Epiroc, Caterpillar).
- Excellent communication and instructional skills.
- Deep technical knowledge of mobile maintenance and failure prevention.
- Proficient with diagnostic tools, SAP PM, and Microsoft Office.
- Organized, patient, and safety-focused leader.
This is a site based role at Alamos Gold, Island Gold District. The job is offered on a 4 day on 3 day off rotation with travel allowance and accommodation provided
