Yukon Parks is seeking a professional and motivated supervisor to lead our Park Officer team.

In addition to having good knowledge of the Yukon and Yukon Parks, our ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of law enforcement techniques and skills in case preparation, court procedures and follow-up investigations. The ability to apply excellent problem solving and decision-making skills when interpreting, applying and enforcing legislation related to Parks operations is essential. Our ideal candidate will also bring a strong set of supervisory and mentorship skills to support a team of Yukon Park Officers that are committed to dedicated public service and continuing to make the Yukon an amazing place to live, camp, and enjoy the land we are privileged to call home.

Essential Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement or a related discipline.
  • Operational field experience in a role such as Park Officer, Conservation/Bylaw/Peace Officer, or a similar natural-resource enforcement position that includes public contact, field patrols, and application of relevant legislation.
  • Significant experience communicating with and educating members of the public, partners, and/or stakeholders, on information related to natural resources and park management.
  • Significant experience leading and supervising staff, including scheduling, setting priorities, monitoring performance, coaching/mentoring, and ensuring safe work practices.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, preferably those involving equipment purchasing/maintenance, logistics, training, and field operations.

  • WRITTEN & VERBAL COMMUNICATION – Ability to build collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization while demonstrating calm and professional mannerisms with the public, coworkers, and enforcement partners.

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following conditions of employment and job requirements.

Conditions of Employment

Your appointment may not be finalized until the following conditions are met:

  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver's license or equivalent.
  • Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).
  • Security Clearance.
  • First Aid/CPR certificate (or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire).
  • A declaration of any convictions under the Criminal Code of Canada for which an official pardon has not been received, as well as any convictions under the following acts: Parks and Land Certainty Act, Environment Act, Wilderness Tourism Licensing Act and Wildlife Act including convictions under similar legislation in other jurisdictions.

Job Requirements

  • Wearing a uniform.
  • Frequent travel within the territory in various weather conditions.
  • Evening/late night/early morning work and weekend shifts are requirements of this position.
  • Working independently in remote locations.
