Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Foreman to oversee field crews on telecom and utility infrastructure projects in Manitoba. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, field experience in underground utility work, and a commitment to safety and high-quality execution. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone with prior experience operating equipment such as Vermeer and Ditch Witch, and performing spade work, fiber drops, and civil installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise field crews (3–10 workers) performing fiber installation, directional drilling, spade work, drops, trenching, and restoration
  • Operate and monitor the use of equipment including Vermeer and Ditch Witch drills
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure adherence to OHSA and company safety policies
  • Coordinate job site logistics, project timelines, and workforce scheduling
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, locates, and site plans
  • Ensure work is completed to project specs, quality standards, and client expectations
  • Maintain clear communication with project managers, clients, and subcontractors
  • Track and submit daily reports, timesheets, and material usage
  • Train and mentor crew members in safe work practices and technical tasks

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in telecom, utilities, or civil construction fieldwork
  • 2+ years in a supervisory, lead-hand, or foreman role
  • Hands-on experience with fiber drops, directional drilling, spade work, and related tasks
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, job site maps, and interpreting utility locates
  • Strong understanding of underground utility safety and trenching practices
  • Experience operating equipment such as Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or mini-excavators
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate crews in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem-solving, organization, and communication skills

Certifications & Requirements

  • Valid Class G Driver's License (Class DZ or AZ preferred)
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • WHMIS, Fall Protection, and Confined Space Entry (or willingness to obtain)
  • Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness (Ontario equivalent knowledge preferred)
  • Knowledge of OHSA and local construction safety regulations
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and in a physically active role
