Mortgage Underwriter

You'll be responsible for reviewing and assessing mortgage applications based on established guidelines and regulatory requirements. This will include risk assessment and bringing along your personal expertise and experiences. You will need to work closely with agents, clients, and our in-house team of experts, including an accountant, lawyer, and commercial specialists, to navigate and solve day-to-day problems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review mortgage applications, analyze financial documentation (credit reports, income verification, property appraisals, etc.), and assess applicants' eligibility based on risk factors and guidelines
• Ensure all mortgage transactions comply with legal, regulatory, and internal standards
• Collaborate with real estate agents, clients, and internal teams to resolve any underwriting issues, clarify documentation, and facilitate a smooth process
• Provide detailed risk assessments and recommendations on mortgage approvals or denials
• Communicate with applicants and agents regarding the status of applications, additional documentation needs, or final decisions
• Stay informed on industry regulations, changes in underwriting guidelines, and emerging best practices to mitigate risk
• Handle complex or high-risk transactions with a focus on maintaining risk management standards

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in banking underwriting, specifically in relation to documentation review, customer service, administration processes, funding, and legal documentation.
• with a strong background in mortgage risk assessment and decision-making
• Deep understanding of mortgage guidelines, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations and complex transactions with a solution-oriented mindset
• Excellent knowledge of both prime and alternative lending solutions, draw and construction financing is a MUST
• Sound knowledge and expertise of credit and underwriting practices, and lending products
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear interaction with clients and internal teams
• Proficiency with industry software and underwriting systems
