The Kenora Jail seeks a driven and organized individual to provide receptionist, keyboarding, general clerical and financial services for the institution.
Located just 30 minutes from the Manitoba border, Kenora is a small city with a population of over 15,000 situated on the north shore of the Lake of the Woods in North Western Ontario. Surrounded by nature, Kenora is known as a site of natural attractions with many activities to choose from including ice fishing, skiing, swimming, biking, hiking and much more. With annual winter and summer festivals, Kenora is home to the Lake of the Woods Museum which has featured historical and cultural exhibits.
About the jobYou will:
- provide receptionist and receptionist services by receiving and rerouting calls, taking messages and answering general inquiries;
- provide typing and general clerical services including formatting, photocopying and distributing various materials;
- prepare, distribute and receive all incoming/outgoing mail;
- arrange travel and prepare travel warrants for released inmates;
- maintain a filing system;
- provide financial services by processing accounts payable;
- initiate canteen order sheets and verifying funds for inmates;
- enter and code data on staff overtime and hours worked in a spreadsheet;
- perform transactions and daily reconciliation of inmate cash float in absence of the Accounts Payable Clerk;
- monitor inventory of office and institutional stationary supplies and replenish and receive supplies as required.
Administrative Knowledge and Skills
- You have knowledge of office administrative practices and procedures and keyboarding in order to provide clerical services.
- You have the ability to acquire knowledge of ministry, institution and office policies and procedures and guidelines in order to perform reception duties.
- You have knowledge of financial administration and arithmetic in order to calculate and reconcile accounts and invoices.
- You have demonstrated communication skills to provide reception services.
- You have demonstrated courtesy, tact and diplomacy to provide information to the public and staff.
- You have proficiency and skill with word processing, spreadsheet, email and internet software, as well as good keyboarding skills.
- You have ability to operate various office equipment such as fax machine, printers, photocopiers, computers and a multi-line telephone switchboard.
