Our client, a well-established and growing company in the
distribution and light manufacturing
space, is seeking a
Director of Finance / Controller
to lead all aspects of financial operations. This is a
hands-on leadership role
ideal for a CPA-designated finance professional with strong experience in
inventory management, costing, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
.

The successful candidate for this Director of Finance / Controller role will be a strategic and detail-oriented finance leader who thrives in a fast-paced, product-driven environment and is capable of building robust processes to support ongoing growth and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial operations, including
    GL, month-end close, financial reporting
    , and compliance
  • Lead and improve
    standard costing models
    ,
    inventory controls
    , and
    cost accounting systems
  • Prepare and manage
    annual budgets
    , rolling forecasts, and financial models to support business planning
  • Analyze
    manufacturing and distribution cost drivers
    , identifying opportunities for efficiency and margin improvement
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and treasury functions
  • Ensure compliance with
    GAAP
    , tax filings, and audit requirements
  • Collaborate closely with operations, procurement, and sales to align financial insights with business performance
  • Implement and refine internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
  • Prepare executive-level reports and presentations for ownership or board
  • Lead and mentor a small finance/accounting team

Qualifications

  • CPA designation (required)
    – CA, CMA, or CGA
  • 7+ years of progressive experience
    in finance/accounting, including at least 3 years in a
    senior or controller-level
    role
  • Industry experience in distribution, manufacturing, or consumer products
    is essential
  • Strong knowledge of
    inventory management, standard costing
    , and
    product costing methodologies
  • Proficient in
    budgeting, forecasting
    , and delivering clear, actionable financial analysis
  • Experience with
    ERP systems
    (e.g., Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities
  • Hands-on, detail-focused, and able to manage both strategic and transactional responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills – able to work cross-functionally and influence decisions
