Position Title:    Community Wellness Coordinator

Reports to: Manager, Community Wellness

Job Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Community wellness, the Wellness Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, delivery, and evaluation of community wellness programs and initiatives that promote the overall health and well-being of the Haisla Nation. The Wellness Coordinator works closely with community members, Elders, and team members to ensure programs are culturally relevant, aligned with community needs, and focused on holistic wellness.

The Wellness Coordinator plays a key role in facilitating health promotion activities, coordinating resources, and building partnerships that enhance individual and community well-being.

Organizational Status

The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous, and proud community, healthy in mind, body, and spirit. We believe in building a strong and thriving community with healthy and happy members and a sustained and prosperous environment. We are about 2023+ people, with approximately 700 living in Kitamaat Village. We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.

Duties & Responsibilities 

Program Coordination

  • Assist the Manager, Health & Wellness in the design, implementation, and evaluation of community wellness initiatives.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate health and wellness programs, including workshops, events, and recreational activities.
  • Collaborate with community members and leaders to develop programs that align with community priorities and traditional values.
  • Promote programs to ensure maximum participation, using effective communication and outreach strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for program activities and outcomes.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Provide support to the IRSS group and program.

Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with community members, Elders, and leadership to ensure wellness programs meet the community's needs.
  • Collaborate with Elders and cultural advisors to incorporate traditional knowledge and practices into wellness initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison between the community and external organizations to enhance access to services and resources.
  • Promote wellness programs and activities through community outreach and communication.
  • Organize regular check-ins and engagement opportunities to gather community input and feedback.

Operational Coordination

  • Coordinate program logistics, including scheduling, facility use, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure program delivery aligns with organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Support the maintenance and operation of facilities used for wellness programs, including recreation centers.
  • Identify and address any barriers to participation in wellness programs.

Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with health professionals, social workers, and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as social services, education, and cultural programs, to deliver integrated wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and organizations to enhance program offerings and secure funding opportunities.
  • Represent the Haisla Nation at wellness-related conferences, meetings, and events.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Health Sciences, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous health and wellness practices, including traditional healing and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities or organizations is highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and other digital tools for planning and reporting.
  • Experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with funding processes, including grant writing and reporting, is an asset.
  • A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation may be required.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if applicable).

Working Conditions

  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for events and activities.

Salary Range: $30.35/hr - $37.49/hr
