Estimator,
whose primary responsibilities are collecting and compiling requests for quotes from external and internal customers, and works closely with the Senior Estimator and other various company divisions. This position reviews the details, scope, drawings, quality demands, and timelines of the customer's requirements. What You'll Be Doing
Preparing estimates for the manufacture of parts, components and assemblies including material, labour, QAQC and submit documentation
Review and clearly understand customer scope, specifications, and required quality standards
Gather material estimates from sub vendors
Gather quotes/pricing from external service providers (i.e. steel supply, metal cutting, non-destructive testing, and paint shops)
Effectively estimate labour required for manufacturing, including fitting and welding operations, machining, and mechanical assembly for custom fabrications as well as low volume production runs
Develop and maintain estimating standards for various areas of production
Work with engineering and customers to develop mechanical designs & solutions to properly estimate the component; finalize and submit quotations to customers
Translate customer requirements into technical proposals
Develop manufacturing process steps in conjunction with supervisors and coordinator; estimate labour run times to support that process
Perform detailed time studies to prove out accurate estimating tables, as required
Compile quotations using supplied material costing and pricing from vendors
Participate in establishing selling prices and policies to support the department business plan
Work with the manufacturing team to develop the most cost-effective product in the industry
Maintain an active review of competitors to insure competitive marketing practices
Maintain supporting relationships with internal and external teams (seek and engage)
Produce contract sheets based on estimate and actual vendor prices
Advise on methods and processes used in the pre-production meetings
Search out vendors and subcontractors required to support business needs
Work with Engineering as required, particularly on projects requiring more intricate calculations
Identify risks associated with projects
Maintain and update quoting standards
Compare estimates with actuals after completion of projects/orders
What You Bring to the Table
Post-secondary education or tradesperson with industry experience
Minimum 3 years experience of steel project estimation
Combined Drafting and Estimation experience with proven ability to read designs and models preferred
CWB, API, ASME, and ANSI experience required
Familiar with metal fabrication and welding processes
Ability to establish and retain relationships with our existing customers, as well as exploration of future customers
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Strong time-management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Working knowledge of Global Shop or other manufacturing ERP software
Experience in the mining industry considered an asset
Valid Driver's license
