Headquartered in Montreal, Canada and publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Stella-Jones operates a vast network of facilities that employs more than 3,000 employees across the United States and Canada. Built on strong foundations with a coast-to-coast reach, we offer real opportunities for career success and community impact.

Stella-Jones is hiring a Sustainability Manager to lead the next chapter of sustainability. This is a newly created position, opened as a result of an internal promotion — a reflection of our growing commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability. This role offers the opportunity to design and implement a forward-looking sustainability strategy that advances our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and embeds sustainable practices across our operations.

Based in Montreal, you'll collaborate with leaders from forestry, operations, supply chain, engineering, and corporate functions to integrate sustainability into everyday decision-making and long-term business planning.

Potential project involvement in 2026 may include:

  • Supporting energy efficiency initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve operational performance at our plants.
  • Developing water management and conservation projects that go beyond compliance.
  • Supporting sustainable forestry and responsible sourcing programs that align with our core values.
  • Supporting research and development efforts to achieve product circularity.
  • Building a company-wide sustainability roadmap that brings together diverse teams under a shared sustainability vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of Stella-Jones' sustainability strategy.
  • Oversee ESG data collection, validation, and reporting to ensure compliance and transparency.
  • Manage sustainability disclosure deliverables, including aligning financial reporting with the CSSB Sustainability Disclosure Framework.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, forestry, and operations to identify and drive impactful projects.
  • Support process improvements, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Stay informed on emerging sustainability trends, disclosure standards, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in sustainability, ESG, environmental management, governance, or forestry.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability frameworks (CSSB, GRI, SASB, TCFD, GHG Protocol).
  • Proven experience managing sustainability reporting and regulatory disclosure.
  • Background in forestry, supply chain, or energy efficiency engineering is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; able to influence across all levels.
  • Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.

As a Stella-Jones employee, you will enjoy access to excellent benefits and incentives, including:
  • Extended health and dental coverage
  • Life insurance and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D)
  • Short-Term and Long-Term disability coverage
  • Competitive compensation
  • Annual Profit Share Program
  • Retirement program (RRSP) with generous Company match (150% of employee's 4% contribution)
  • Company Share Purchase Program with 25% Company contribution match
  • Career advancement opportunities
