Position Overview
Granville College is seeking a dedicated
Accounting and Payroll Instructor
to deliver engaging, practical instruction to students enrolled in our Accounting and Payroll program. The ideal candidate will bring both academic knowledge and professional expertise, preparing students to excel in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll administration, and related business practices. This position requires an individual who is passionate about teaching, student success, and staying current with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom and online instruction in accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll administration.
- Teach accounting fundamentals, payroll legislation, payroll compliance, and the use of payroll/accounting software.
- Provide hands-on training in Sage 50, QuickBooks, and other accounting/payroll systems.
- Guide students through practical exercises, simulations, and case studies that reflect real-world business scenarios.
- Assess student progress through assignments, exams, and practical evaluations.
- Mentor and support students in developing technical, analytical, and professional workplace skills.
- Stay up to date with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements, provincial payroll legislation, and accounting standards.
- Collaborate with academic staff to review and enhance curriculum content.
- Maintain compliance with educational accreditation and institutional policies.
- Foster a professional, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution. A combination of formal education and extensive professional experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of recent, relevant experience in accounting and payroll in Canada.
- Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) designation (Payroll Compliance Practitioner PCP or Certified Payroll Manager CPM) strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, payroll compliance, employment standards, and tax regulations.
- Proficiency with accounting and payroll software (Sage 50, QuickBooks, and Excel).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse learners.
- Experience with instruction, training, or mentoring in an academic or workplace setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Canvas, considered an asset.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and continuous learning.
