Claro Nanaimo is hiring for the position of Mentor (Education Assistant/Behaviour Interventionist) in our learning centre the remainder of the program year. Join our long-term team of enthusiastic and supportive Mentors working with the coolest kids on earth
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support to pod of 3 or 4 neurodivergent students in their online school programs. Ability to support high school Math and Sciences is an asset.
- Collaborate with online school teachers, organize learning materials, break down tasks and report progress or concerns.
- Prepare and provide 1:1 and small group lessons and coaching in social and emotional regulation. Familiarity with trauma-sensitive care and collaborative problem solving are assets.
- Plan and deliver opportunities for life skills and therapeutic recreation in the learning centre and community.
- Prevent crisis escalation through use of non-violent crisis intervention skills.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Certificate, diploma or degree (e.g. Education Assistant/Community Support Worker, Child & Youth Care, Psychology) or equivalent experience.
- Experience and/or understanding of neurodivergence (e.g. Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, etc.)
- Comfortable with Google (Gmail, Meet, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills: professional, clear and warm.
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
- Resilience through adversity and rational detachment (ability to not take things personally).
Additional Requirements:
- A well-maintained vehicle and unrestricted driver's licence.
- Valid first aid and CPR certification.
- To provide consistency to students, applicants must be available to complete the entire contract (Feb-June); preference for those who are also interested in returning in Sept. 2026.
