Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide environmental, forestry, management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Our goals include creating economic growth from the commercial development of natural resources within the Simpcw'ulécw (Simpcw Territory) by being the major contractor and competing for work in both the public and private sectors.
Current Opportunities:
Simpcw Resources LLP is growing rapidly and looking for a dependable and enthusiastic GIS Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Forestry and/or Environmental Manager, the GIS Technician requires organization, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking, good time management and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Managing project data and geodatabases.
- Acquiring and managing spatial data from various sources.
- Creating, processing, and editing spatial data using GIS software from various data sources.
- Following standard operating procedures and mapping standards for quality control.
- Developing mapping templates, mapping products and deliverables for various forestry and environmental related projects.
- Conducting spatial analysis to support decision-making processes for forest management, planning, and tenure development.
- Support the development of various digital field forms (e.g., Survey 123) utilized for environmental surveys and ecological studies.
- Collaborating with professionals, project leads and field crews for field data collection.
- Troubleshooting GIS software and GPS device issues.
- Utilizing python script to automate workflows.
- Staying informed with new geospatial technologies and innovations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Formal training in Geographic Information Systems. (e.g. Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems, or equivalent working knowledge and experience.)
- 3+ years using ESRI ArcGIS software and extensions.
- Proficient in ArcGIS ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro.
- Experience using Spatial Analyst and/or 3D Analyst extensions.
- Experience performing spatial analysis for Land base reporting.
- Work experience in Forestry-related GIS, specifically operational and development mapping.
- Experience creating ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro projects, data driven map templates, custom symbology, layers files, definition queries and expressions.
- Experience creating, editing, and managing spatial data in geodatabases.
- Experience creating terrain rasters from TRIM and LiDAR data in Spatial Analyst extension.
- Experience using Trimble LRM software and ArcGIS versioned enterprise geodatabases.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS apps (ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey 123 or other).
- Experience in using AGOL (ArcGIS Online).
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience acquiring and managing spatial data from various sources.
- ArcGIS Python Scripting.
