Position Overview
The Site Superintendent is responsible for overall management and supervision of steel construction projects from start to completion. This senior field role requires extensive construction experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, and complex construction activities while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise all field construction activities and personnel
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
- Oversee multiple construction crews, subcontractors, and Field Coordinators
- Make critical field decisions and resolve construction issues
- Ensure project completion within scope, schedule, and budget parameters
- Serve as primary field contact for clients and internal stakeholders
- Lead client meetings, progress reviews, and project communications
- Manage change orders, field modifications, and contract variations
- Coordinate with other trades and general contractors on multi-trade projects
- Resolve disputes and maintain positive client relationships
- Implement and enforce comprehensive safety programs and OSHA compliance
- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and incident investigations
- Ensure quality control standards and specifications are met
- Coordinate inspections with third-party testing agencies and building officials
- Maintain safety records and implement corrective actions
- Plan and sequence construction activities for optimal efficiency
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment deployment, and logistics
- Oversee crane operations, rigging, and heavy equipment activities
- Monitor progress and productivity, implementing improvements as needed
- Manage field documentation, reports, and project records
Qualifications
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Trade school certification or apprenticeship completion a plus
- Minimum 5 years of construction field experience
- Minimum 3-5 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Demonstrated experience managing construction projects from start to completion
- Experience with commercial, industrial, or residential construction projects
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes
- Experience with construction management software and scheduling tools
- Understanding of safety regulations
- Knowledge of quality control procedures and industry standards
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Working at Heights training
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
