The Yukon public service has a unique opportunity for recent graduates who have a post-secondary diploma or degree but lack real-world work experience. With GradCorps, you can kick-start your career while putting your passion, ideas and energy to work with the Yukon public service.
The Department of Highways and Public Works has a GradCorps opportunity for an Engagement Advisor. This position will allow you to build practical skills and gain meaningful experience in Indigenous relations and public service. Transportation Engineering Brach delivers a high volume of transportation infrastructure projects each year, all of which take place within the asserted and established traditional territories of Yukon's Indigenous governments. The participant will gain insight into how the Government of Yukon fulfills its duty to consult, that applies across all departments. This experience will help them to understand how consultation is planned and carried out in real-world situations, and how it connects to broader reconciliation efforts.
This position will work for a one-year Term from approximately May 2026 to April 2027. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary - $65,006

Essential Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Indigenous studies, public administration, political science, environmental studies, law, or a related discipline.
Experience conducting research is an asset.

- Familiarity with Yukon First Nation governance, history and political structures
Interest in reconciliation, Indigenous relations, consultation processes or supporting the implementation of government-to-government agreements and related initiatives with Indigenous governments.
Additional Information
NOTE: To qualify for the GradCorps program, you must:
- be a resident of Yukon or a person of Yukon First Nations ancestry*
- have graduated with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution within the past two years (2024, 2025 or 2026 grads – all requirements for graduation must be complete before internship start date)
have little or no work experience in your field of study
If you are a resident of Yukon who completed your studies outside of the territory, you may apply up to two years after graduation.
