AMS Media Centre Head Manager

The AMS Media Centre seeks to provide the Queen's and Kingston community with exceptional media and production services, at competitive prices with trusted quality. The Media Centre offers a wide variety of services including standard and specialty printing, photography, videography, and graphic design. This service is also responsible for the creation and distribution of the AMS Agenda, the Tricolour Yearbook, and CoursePacks, as well as executing the rental of hoods and gowns for Queen's convocation. The Media Centre blends technology with professional customer service to create an energetic, student-run hub comprised of a team of seven managers, several supervisors, and service staff.
The AMS Media Centre Head Manager, under the direction of the Vice President (Operations), will act as the primary spokesperson for the service, support and supervise Assistant Managers, Supervisors, and staff while maintaining regular communication. This position requires high-level organizational skills to ensure the daily operation of in-store production and Creative Hub commissions, including scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly. The AMS Media Centre Head Manager must possess a demonstrated ability to develop relationships with customers and employees, with an ability to work well as a team player in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
It is the responsibility of the AMS Media Centre Head Manager to identify situations where it may be necessary to work more hours to ensure the completion of responsibilities from both Head Manager and Assistant Manager portfolios. This role is salaried. There is a potential for an increase in hours during busy periods such as; Convocation in Summer, staff training in Fall, and transition and training in Spring.

Job Duties
Develop a departmental goal plan with will serve as the framework for the annual budget prepared in collaboration with the accounting department and approved by the Vice President (Operations).
Exhibit a working knowledge of Assistant Manager and Supervisor portfolios and offer support when necessary.
Determine staffing requirements for the administration of the department, and coordinate and oversee the hiring of staff.
Coordinate with all stakeholders to uphold the contracted requirements, including graduation photography, yearbook publication, and commissions.
Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to AMS Media Centre standards, and to set a positive example for the team.
Explore opportunities for improving environmental sustainability and social responsibility (for example, enhancing EDII) of the service alongside the managerial team.
Complete a thorough transition process with the incoming manager that includes one on one meetings and a transition manual.
Maintain consistent communication with all relevant stakeholders, responding to e-mails and Teams notifications in a timely manner, attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings to maintain positive working relationships.
Participate as an active member on hiring panels to keep the service adequately staffed.
Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution when possible.
Obtain a strong working knowledge of all AMS Media Centre equipment, including copiers, production equipment, computer networks, and Adobe software. This will include various troubleshooting techniques, upkeep, and maintenance of store machines alongside the AMS IT Office and various suppliers.
Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards and provide informational coaching and feedback on an ongoing basis.
Monitor employee performance to mitigate disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and notify the Head Manager of any issues that arise.
Accurately monitor, maintain and report inventories, the flow of products, and weekly orders.
Work Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts based on service demands (potentially increasing during high volume periods).
