Nurse Advisor (Contract) – Delegation & Clinical Oversight
Contract Position – Monthly Retainer Flexible Hours – (around 5 hours/month) Remote with Occasional On-Site Visits
About Us We are a private, client-centered home support and aging-in-place company providing high-quality, non-medical care, personal support, therapeutic recreation, and dementia-focused services to older adults living at home. We are not a nursing agency, but we are expanding our capacity by adding a Nurse Advisor to support delegated tasks, clinical guidance, and safe care delivery.
Role Overview We are seeking a collaborative, supportive Nurse Advisor (RN or RPN) to provide clinical oversight, guidance, and delegation of specific tasks to our PSWs and care team. This is a contract role paid by a monthly retainer, designed for a nurse who enjoys consulting, mentoring, and supporting a high-quality home care team.
The ideal nurse is approachable, solutions-oriented, understands dementia and aging in place, and works with us to enhance client safety and care quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Delegation & Competency
- Assess PSW competency for specific delegated tasks (e.g., insulin administration, medication assistance, simple wound support).
- Provide training, instruction, and sign-off according to Ontario delegation standards.
- Review and update delegated task protocols as needed.
Clinical Guidance
- Review client charts and provide clinical recommendations where appropriate.
- Offer clinical consultation on chronic conditions, dementia behaviours, and care planning.
- Advise on when a client requires nursing involvement from home and community care.
Safety & Risk Management
- Help determine when tasks fall within PSW scope vs. when they require clinical intervention.
- Provide escalation guidance for wound care, medication concerns, behavioural changes, or safety risks.
- Ensure delegated tasks are documented according to best practices.
Care Collaboration
- Work with the Director of Care & Owner to ensure safe care planning.
- Provide high-level support to families as needed (non-emergency).
- Participate in occasional team meetings for clinical updates or case reviews.
This is an advisory and delegation-focused position, supporting our existing care model.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the CNO
- Experience in community care, geriatrics, dementia, or primary care an asset
- Understanding of delegation practices in Ontario
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, respectful approach
- Comfortable with virtual chart reviews and occasional home visits
Compensation
This is a monthly retainer contract, paid at a fixed rate based on anticipated workload. Additional visits or training sessions may be billed separately.
We are open to structuring the retainer based on:
- A set number of hours per month
- Access + availability model
- Per-client oversight bundles
This role is ideal for a nurse seeking flexible consulting work.
