The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer (P.Eng.) with 5-7 years of experience, with a strong focus on Canadian building retrofit projects. In this role, you will take on a key position within our design and construction contract administration team, leading electrical design efforts for building services retrofit projects. You will work closely with our Senior Electrical Engineer, assist with business development, and contribute to improving the team's processes and performance.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Preparing engineering specifications and drawings for commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings.
  • Designing lighting systems, power distribution, short circuit and coordination studies, medium voltage substations, grounding systems, distributed energy generation, structured cabling, fire alarm systems, communication systems, and security systems.
  • Drafting engineering application documents for distributed generation connections, building permits, electrical service upgrades, and electrical plans reviews.
  • Ensuring designs meet established project criteria, codes, and applicable standards.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, proposals, bid submissions, budgets, and project plans.
  • Liaising with contractors, reviewing and accepting shop drawings, and conducting on-site inspections.
  • Supporting additional project-related tasks to ensure successful completion.
  • Collaborating with business development teams to review job sites, prepare proposals, and/or quotations.
  • Assisting Operations in developing new service offerings, reviewing third-party design tools, and creating internal project tools.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • P.Eng. designation.
  • 5-7 years of experience, with a strong focus on Canadian building retrofit projects.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, ESA Bulletins, and Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Familiarity with IEEE and CSA standards for power system design and equipment.
  • Understanding of CSA Z462 and arc flash hazards.
  • Experience with the Ontario Building Code and National Building Code of Canada.
  • Expertise with the Ontario Electrical Distribution Code and Local Distribution Company interconnection requirements for Distributed Energy Generation.
  • Experience working with Local Distribution Companies on electrical services, including customer-owned medium voltage transformation and switchgear.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
