The Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH), located in the Halifax Regional Municipality, is a dynamic acute-care regional facility offering a wide range of services and specialties. With 122 inpatient beds and a recently renovated 8-bed medical/surgical/cardiac Intensive Care Unit, DGH is also preparing to expand further with the addition of a 6-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The hospital provides comprehensive outpatient services, outreach programs, and medical diagnostics, and supports a full suite of surgical specialties, including general surgery, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, oral maxillofacial, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, dentistry, ENT (otolaryngology), and more. DGH also offers extensive clinical services such as anesthesiology, cancer and supportive care, respiratory therapy, emergency medicine, diagnostic imaging (including general radiography, mammography, and CT scanning), renal dialysis, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, laboratory services, and rehabilitation. The hospital's Emergency Department handles approximately 47,000 visits annually. Job DescriptionWe are seeking a locum emergency physician to join our dedicated team at DGH. The locum position offers flexibility with an end date that can be negotiated, and offers the potential to join the group in a permanent position. The role involves providing high-quality emergency care to patients, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Emergency Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records

Qualifications- all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- all family physician must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
- membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- all applicants must have a current PALSCertification
- all applicants must have a current ATLSCertification
- all applicants must have a current ACLSCertification
- Emergency Medicine/FRCP certification preferred; other training backgrounds with relevant Emergency Department experience will be considered
- Strong clinical skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
