Job Title: Maintenance Technician (Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm)
Location: 162 Savage Drive, Cambridge
Reports to: Production Manager
Type of position: Full-time/Hourly/Union
Purpose OF ROLE
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of production and facility equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role supports production reliability and continuous improvement across the plant.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
· Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment (pellet mills, mixers, packaging lines, conveyors, boilers, and utilities).
· Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
· Support equipment installation, setup, and commissioning of new machinery.
· Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and records.
· Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation of equipment.
· Conduct building maintenance as required (lighting, plumbing, HVAC checks).
· Participate in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
· Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and all food safety/health & safety policies.
· Maintain and repair ingredient handling systems (augers, dosing equipment, liquid mixing pumps).
· Inspect and calibrate weighing, measuring, and blending systems for accuracy and compliance.
· Support safe operation and maintenance of dust collection systems to control feed dust and ensure a clean working environment.
· Perform regular checks on steam, boiler, and CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems to ensure consistent operation.
· Collaborate with Quality Assurance on root cause analysis of equipment issues impacting product quality.
· Respond promptly to production breakdowns to minimize product loss and downtime.
· Other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma required; completion of a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or related technical trade certification an asset.
- Minimum 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food production facility.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to weld, fabricate, or perform machining is an asset.
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and food safety requirements preferred.
- Physically capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting up to 25 kg.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
