What you can expect from this position:
Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance Response, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining all airport electrical power and distribution installations both building and airside.
As an Electrician, you will:
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance, emergency repairs and modifications to airport electrical systems such as Aircraft Support Systems but not limited to electrical distribution systems including emergency power generation, Building Automated Lighting System, Variable Frequency Drives, Programmable Logic Controls and all other auxiliary equipment with Electrical controls.
- Maintain baggage systems, passenger boarding bridge and associated gate equipment.
- Install new electrical services in facilities including sizing conduit and/or cable runs, carrying out installation work and testing the completed job.
- Provide supervision and monitoring of electrical maintenance, repair and project work being performed by outside contractors, and observing the work being done by contractor personnel while ensuring that it is being completed in accordance with contract specifications.
- Diagnosing electrical equipment faults (including electronic components).
- Maintain all illumination devices and lighting systems.
- Ensure the continuing integrity of power supply by testing emergency power devices.
- Check and adjust normal and back-up power systems.
- Check and test fire alarm systems, monitoring systems and implementing necessary repairs.
This unionized position is classified at the Band 8 level, with an hourly wage rate of $51.51 based on a 40 hour work week. A practical and written test will be administered as part of the competitive process.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician (Construction and Maintenance Electrical 309A License).
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a licensed Electrician.
- Previous experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems and/or equipment related to Building and Construction operations.
- Valid class "G" Ontario Driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a "D/A" level Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit within 6 months of appointment to the position.
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
- Experience in maintaining power supplies; providing periodic testing, recording, checking and maintaining emergency generators, fire alarm systems and other monitoring systems.
- Experience in installation of new electrical services in various facilities.
- Ability to work with general electrical systems ranging from replacing lighting fixtures to complex electronic/electrical repairs to Airport specific systems, as well as supervising and assisting contractors work on specific Electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret various information data types, such as built drawings, electronic drawings including layout plans and electrical schematics is required, as is the ability to facilitate installations and perform troubleshooting and repairs to complex systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills in order to work on systems, and with tenants, agencies and other airport service companies.
- Ability to diagnose electrical equipment faults and recommend corrective actions; understand safety and standard operating procedures; interpret wiring diagrams related to power and control systems, fire alarm systems etc.
