Kaizen Safety Group is currently seeking a Shop Technician to join our Grande Prairie, Alberta branch. This role is critical to ensuring that all equipment supporting field operations is compliant with regulatory requirements, aligned with company standards, and fully operational in high-demand industrial environments.
The Shop Technician is responsible for the inspection, cleaning, testing, maintenance, and documentation of specialized safety equipment, including emergency breathing apparatus, atmospheric monitoring equipment, breathing air trailers, and fleet vehicles. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to work efficiently in time-sensitive conditions to support operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
· Communicate with management regarding equipment deployment, condition, and readiness to support customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
· Inspect, clean, test, and maintain breathing apparatus packs and atmospheric monitoring equipment.
· Complete and maintain accurate documentation related to equipment inspections, maintenance, sign-outs, and returns.
· Identify equipment malfunctions or performance issues and perform on-site or shop-based repairs as required.
· Ensure all equipment is cleaned, assessed, and ready for deployment prior to the end of each shift.
· Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment and consumables.
· Collaborate with management to ensure adequate resource availability and uninterrupted operations.
· Support and improve quality assurance protocols related to equipment handling, maintenance, and deployment.
· Monitor and support compliance with applicable legislation, Industry Recommended Practices (IRPs), and safety regulations.
· Communicate equipment issues, maintenance actions, and inspection findings through detailed reporting.
· Complete required maintenance, repair, and operational paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications
· Prior experience in equipment inspection, testing, or maintenance, preferably with breathing apparatus, and gas detection systems is preferred, but not mandatory
· Familiarity with Industry Recommended Practices (IRPs), applicable local, provincial, and federal safety regulations
· Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills
· Standard safety certifications: H2S Alive, First Aid, CSO, etc.
· Valid Class 5 Driver License with clean 5yr Abstract
Desired Skills
· Strong mechanical aptitude with effective troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
· Experience towing or pulling trailers is considered an asset.
· Excellent organizational skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
· High attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
· Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
· Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
· Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
· Physically capable of performing job duties, including lifting moderate to heavy objects, and standing, bending, and crouching for extended periods.
