Position Summary

BTI is seeking a Senior EI&C Lead to take a technical leadership and engineering responsibility role in the delivery of control system migration and modernization projects. This position is accountable for guiding the electrical, instrumentation, and controls scope from early definition through commissioning, with particular focus on brownfield facilities and live system cutovers.

This role is suited to an experienced professional engineer or professional engineering technologist who is comfortable acting as a technical authority, leading multi-discipline teams, interfacing directly with clients, and managing the risks inherent in control system migrations.

Key Responsibilities

As a senior technical leader, you will be accountable for both engineering quality and project execution. Responsibilities include:

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery

• Act as EI&C technical lead for control system migration projects, including PLC, SCADA, and DCS upgrades or replacements.
• Lead front-end scope definition, migration strategies, cutover planning, and execution sequencing.
• Identify and manage technical and operational risks associated with live system modifications and brownfield constraints.
• Establish design standards, review deliverables, and ensure consistency across project teams.
• Assume engineering responsibility for the project deliverables.

Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering

• Oversee development of control and network panel design, system integration, power distribution, instrumentation integration, and hazardous area considerations.
• Review and approve single-line diagrams, schematics, loop drawings, cable schedules, and construction packages.
• Ensure integration between electrical systems and control system architecture.

Client & Stakeholder Interface

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients on assigned projects.
• Participate in proposals, estimates, and technical clarifications related to migration work.
• Support constructability reviews, commissioning planning, and operational handover.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide technical direction and mentorship to intermediate and junior engineers, technologists, and designers.
• Coordinate work across internal disciplines and external vendors.
• Promote a culture of quality, safety, and practical engineering judgment.

Codes, Standards & Compliance

• Ensure all designs and execution plans comply with applicable codes and standards (CEC, Alberta Standata, CSA, ISA).
• Apply best practices for industrial cybersecurity awareness, OT change management, and system validation where applicable.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Professional registration with APEGA (P.Eng.) or ASET (P.Tech.), or eligibility for registration.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in industrial electrical and/or control systems engineering.
• Demonstrated experience leading control system migration or modernization projects in operating facilities.
• Strong understanding of industrial control systems, electrical integration, and brownfield execution challenges.
• Proven ability to lead teams, make sound technical decisions, and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for site work, commissioning, and client meetings.

Preferred:

• Experience with major PLC/SCADA/DCS platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider).
• Familiarity with power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM).
• EPCM project delivery experience.
• Exposure to industrial IT/OT considerations and lifecycle management.
