Job Summary:

The People & Culture Generalist supports LOFT through the development and execution of positive employee relations strategies. The Generalist is an expert in critical employee relations, leaves and management processes and techniques. They are responsible for advising Managers and facilitating positive relationships. They will be responsible for applying business knowledge and human resources expertise as well as thoughtful policy and procedure development to enable great experience and meet compliance standards.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships, enabling effective employee and leadership behaviours and issue resolution.
  • Support leaders on employee relations concerns and the performance management process, using an anti-oppression framework and a thorough understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Responsible for the administration of the disability management. This position will assist with the administration of ill or injured employees, sick leave, long-term disability and WSIB absences, including the development, planning and implementation of return to work plans and the duty to accommodate process in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Support managers with employee leaves including pregnancy/parental leaves, STD, LTD, WSIB and unpaid leaves.
  • Follow up and collaborate with internal partners to ensure leaves are approved, tracked, and calculated accurately.
  • Support Managers in working with employees, management, and other key stakeholders (e.g. insurance company WSIB, medical professionals etc.) in all aspects of attendance and disability management, including preparing correspondence regarding submission of application documentation, status of claims, accommodations and return to work plans.
  • Coordinate WSIB claims and complete WSIB Form 7's for workplace injuries and notify the JHSC of incidents or accidents as directed by the People and Culture Manager;
  • Coordinate with insurance company of active claims to ensure payments are made adhering to legislation and/or the collective agreement, and/or arrange coordination of benefits;
  • Assist in the return-to-work process and modified work programs, including follow-up on current accommodation plans.
  • Arrange and follow up on ergonomic assessment requests and implementation
  • Support the development and implementation of HR projects aligned with LOFT's strategic plan and the HR People and Culture Plan. Assist with the development and maintenance of staff retention strategies.
  • Respect the privacy and maintain confidentiality of all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support Payroll and Finance by providing up to date employee information.
  • Produces regular and ad hoc reports as needed including reviewing HR metrics and contributing to analysis and insights gathering.
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies and ways to automate People and Culture workflows and processes to improve the employee experience.
  • Promote and champion organizational equity, inclusion and anti-racism strategies.

What You Bring

Must Haves

  • At least three (3) years working in Human Resources and post-secondary education in Human Resources or equivalent education/experience.
  • Demonstrated performance management experience is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of all applicable legislation, labour law, employment equity regulations, government policies, procedures and practices.
  • Sound knowledge and broad understanding of the Employment Standards Act (Ontario) and the principles and practices of standard payroll functions.
  • Keeps up to date with the latest HR trends, Occupational Health and Safety, Employment Law best practices, and relays updates to management and employees.

Work Environment
  • Regularly required to use hands
  • Required to sit for long periods.
  • Required to walk, bend, kneel, crouch and reach with hands and arms.
  • Requires commuting to various LOFT locations.
  • Requires lifting or moving office supplies, equipment, and furniture up to 10-25lbs.
  • Vision abilities require reading regular print and reading from a computer screen.
  • Hours of work are generally standard 9-5p but may be varied to extended workdays including some evenings.
  • Frequent distractions and interruptions
  • Multiple demands, occasionally on short notice
  • Low to moderate noise levels of office noise, and occasionally loud levels of noise
  • Exposure to eye strain/repetitive strain from computer work
