Summary of Position: Reporting directly to the Sr. Manager, Safety & Training, the Assistant Manager, Safety and Training will be responsible for assisting to manage the (BRT and Conventional) training team and implementing a proactive safety program with successful results, including the contractual obligations. The incumbent will demonstrate leadership in safety and promote safety first.

Responsibilities: In the position of Assistant Manager, Safety and Training your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

· Demonstrate capability to prevent personal and vehicle accidents through the development and implementation of a comprehensive training plan

· Develops and monitors the contents of driver training to ensure compliance with all provincial, Company and York Region Transit requirements.

· Ensures all employee training files are in compliance with provincial and York Region Transit requirements.

· Develops and implements monthly safety talks including but not limited to topic selection, presentation, agenda, recording attendance and follow up with absent drivers.

· Schedules and conducts road ride checks on each driver as per contractual requirements.

· Provide assistance and participate in all Health and Safety Committee meetings to discuss safety related issues. Monthly inspections of the location must be recorded.

· Responsible to follow through on all accident investigations, completion of accident reports, maintenance of accident files, completion of post-accident counselling with the involved driver and timely reporting of any incidents and accidents to York Region Transit.

· Provides direction and guidance to the Training Supervisors and sets goals and objectives for the department

· Develop and update any safety messages and displays.

· Prepares reports and the budget as required on a periodic and exception basis.

· Implement cost savings or safety enhancement solutions to improve safety and reduce accidents, both short and long term.

· Continued self awareness of safety issues, new laws, regulations and YRT requirements, including but not limited to WHMIS, AODA, etc.

· Promoting a positive, safe and harassment free learning environment and taking corrective action as necessary.

· Ability to facilitate new driver training school and written testing for license renewals.

· Adhere to Ministry Approved Driver Certification Program (DCP)

Requirements: Successful candidates must possess:

· Bachelor of Administration and a minimum of five (5) years of recent or relevant experience in urban transit or related.

· Minimum of five (5) years experience in a managerial role in a transit system

· Certified Professional Instructor in Bus Operator Education in Fleet Driver Trainer (P.R.I.D.E Certification) or THSAO Fleet Driver Trainer and Air Brake Instructor facilitator.

· Certified Instructor in CUTA Transit Ambassador in Customer Service

· Must possess or be able to obtain MTO signing authority under recognized authority program

· Must possess sound judgement, excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, interpersonal, coaching/counselling, leadership and customer service skills.

· Must have a valid BZ license with a minimum of 3 years experience and clean Driver's Abstract and CVOR

· Excellent understanding and practical experience with adult education is an asset

· Strong computer skills with a working understanding of Microsoft Office.

· Demonstrated ability as a strong and fast learner

· Ability to work various shifts and weekends as required.

Pay: $83,000.00-$88,000.00 per year
