Manager of Human Resources

Salary Range: $125,909 - $132,946

Reporting to the Superintendent of Business, the Manager of Capital Projects oversees all capital projects for the Near North District School Board including new school construction and major renovations. The Manager of Capital Projects will serve as the liaison for NNDSB capital projects with the Ministry of Education; architects; engineers; general contractors; other consultants involved in capital projects; and within the board, with staff from Facilities and Operations, Finance, IT, school locations, and other departments.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Manage and oversee total construction efforts to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule.
  • Prepare initial project goals, targets, schedules and budgets.
  • Manage project budgets in accordance with funding parameters, including cost forecasting, monitoring actual costs, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor site safety and ensure that the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety act are in-force.
  • Ensure all applicable Municipal or independent inspections/testing is performed and Ministry of Education and School Board policies/standards are adhered to on project sites.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure any issues are documented, addressed and mitigated.
  • Support the development, implementation and regular review of the multi-year Capital Plan.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in the related field of Architecture, Engineering or Project Management.
  • Five to seven years of progressive and related experience in the successful administration and management of large capital projects, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, and effectively manage large project budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge of all local, provincial, and federal legislation, architectural and engineering standards and practices related to construction and construction contract administration.
  • Possess or have ability to obtain Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Member of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario (MAATO) designation (preferred).
  • Possess or have ability to possess Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) designation or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation (preferred).
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents.
  • Experience in use of AutoCAD and PDF editing software (preferred).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and use Ministry and Board specific software applications.
  • Ability to be flexible and work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent consensus building, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with partner organizations, agencies and communities;
  • Demonstrate a team focused management style;
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's license (G-class) and access to vehicle for frequent travel to Board sites for internal and project meetings.
