Our client, a leading palliative residence in the West Island, is seeking a Director of Clinical Care.
This organization is a well-established palliative care residence known for delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. It is recognized within the palliative care community for its multidisciplinary approach and commitment to excellence.
Reporting to the Executive Director and as a key member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Clinical Care provides strategic and operational leadership to the nursing and supportive care teams, ensuring excellence in patient and family care. This role oversees the admissions process, supports ongoing development and continuous learning within the nursing team, and ensures coordination and consistency in clinical practice across the organization. The Director fosters a culture of collaboration, compassion, innovation, and clinical excellence aligned with the mission, values, and standards of care.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervise the Supportive Care team (Social Workers, Art Therapist, Music Therapist), Nurse Manager, Nurse Educator, Admissions Nurse, and Clinical Care Administrative Assistant.
- Indirectly supervise approximately 60 Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Patient Care Attendants.
- Ensure strong alignment and collaboration between admissions, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, and supportive care.
- Act as a liaison with the medical team, working closely with the co‑Medical Directors to ensure alignment within the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure effective delivery of palliative care services for patients and families.
- Plan and manage the annual departmental budget, including workforce projections and operating expenses.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee daily clinical operations and ensure proper resource allocation.
- Serve as clinical expert and reference for nursing and medical teams.
- Oversee the admissions process to maintain full operational capacity.
- Develop and uphold standards of clinical and professional practice.
- Oversee the creation, implementation, and evaluation of clinical policies and procedures.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead needs assessments and develop training/education programs for nursing staff.
- Participate in research initiatives in medical and nursing fields.
- Promote continuous professional growth and evidence‑based practice.
- Ensure effective communication with patients, families, and staff.
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the broader healthcare and palliative care networks.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in nursing or a related healthcare field; Master's degree an asset.
- Minimum of 7 years in a leadership role managing large teams.
- Strong leadership skills (assertiveness, vision, communication, listening).
- Experience in palliative care is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and engage multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in nursing team development is an asset.
- Experience in organizational change management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Demonstrated innovation capacity.
- Experience in quality improvement.
- Fully bilingual (English/French).
