Your role
We are looking for a Producer to join the provincial radio program À échelle humaine, which airs Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on ICI Première in Ontario.
We're seeking a creative and collaborative leader with excellent editorial judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and a positive, team-oriented approach.
The ideal candidate knows how to harness the full potential of radio and digital platforms to showcase content that fuels public conversation. You understand the diversity of Ontario's population—from Toronto to Northern and Southwestern Ontario—and the importance of reflecting all communities in our programming.
Under the supervision of the Coordinating Producer, the Producer will be responsible for planning, designing, organizing, and developing the production and direction of À échelle humaine, a show that explores current affairs, culture, and social issues. The program also highlights the cultural diversity of Ontario's Francophone communities.
The incumbent must ensure that all work complies with CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices. At the same time, this role allows for considerable independence, initiative, and creativity. You will lead and coordinate the work of other team members regularly, inspiring and motivating them to produce distinctive, high-quality content.
You bring fresh ideas and the technical expertise needed to create the high-calibre programming Canadians expect from us. You think beyond convention, always looking for new and innovative ways to create distinctive, intelligent content — values that define Radio-Canada's approach to storytelling.
Please note that this position is based in Toronto, with a Tuesday-to-Saturday work schedule.
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to defining program objectives.
- Develop program content, including assignments, research, scripts, and/or editing.
- Commission research or written materials as needed.
- Prepare scripts and production plans.
- Oversee the live broadcast of the program.
- Determine the style, tone, pacing, and overall format of the program.
- Plan and organize the show and its individual components or segments.
- In collaboration with the program administrator, plan and request the financial, creative, and operational resources required for production.
- Assume editorial responsibility delegated by management.
- Evaluate all aspects of production, including performance of programming and production staff as well as freelance contributors.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Selecting, adapting, or revising scripts written by others.
- Ensuring proper copyright clearances for all materials used in the program.
- Determining the order and importance of program elements.
- Assigning, coordinating, and supervising team members contributing to the program or specific segments.
- Maintaining professional contacts relevant to the program's focus.
- Overseeing the design and structure of enhanced digital segments for the show's website and platforms.
- Proposing and supervising multiplatform content initiatives connected to the program.
- Editing and mixing audio or visual elements, or supervising that process.
- Maintaining an appropriate and continuous level of communication with the audience, consistent with the show's tone and purpose.
Your profile:
- University degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, political science, or a related field
- Five (5) years of experience, including at least three (3) in broadcasting or a related field directly connected to program production
- Strong, positive, and collaborative leadership skills
- Genuine commitment to fostering and promoting a respectful, inclusive, and diverse workplace culture
- Bilingualism (French/English) required
- Excellent knowledge of Ontario's communities, including the Greater Toronto Area, Northern Ontario, and Southwestern Ontario
- Excellent editorial judgment
- Strong knowledge of regional, national, and international current affairs
- Broad general knowledge
- Solid understanding of social media and web content analytics tools
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Ability to go on air — an asset
- Knowledge of Radio-Canada's mandate, programming policies, and Journalistic Standards and Practices
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next
step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
