Seeking a Visual Arts Teacher who will use visual arts as a medium to help recently arrived refugee children and youth make friends, practice English and settle into their new school.

This is a temporary position, not a permanent position. Applicant must be available for work Monday – Friday between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Pay rate starts at $25.85/hr. After completion of 30 days of work, the pay rate increases to $34.47/hr.

Summary of Duties:

· Design and facilitate art, and arts and craft-based activities to help newcomer children and youth settle into their new environments.

· Use the arts as a medium for fostering friendships, teamwork, and respect between newcomer children/youth and their Canadian peers

· Effectively supervise and engage hard-to-manage children and youth who have little to no English

· Create effective lesson plans that cater to various learning styles

· Prepare statistical reports on programming and enter data into program reporting applications

· Adhere to privacy and confidentiality requirements

· Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· Experience teaching art, and arts and crafts to children and youth

· Experience facilitating engaging lessons for children and youth

· Ability to motivate and engage students

· Responsible for child safety during an emergency procedure

· Experience working with newly arrived immigrants of various educational and cultural backgrounds

· Access to a car and willing to drive across the GTA (Etobicoke, Scarborough, North York, Central Toronto)

· Police Clearance for Vulnerable Sectors required

· Ability to speak additional languages an asset

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.85-$34.47 per hour
