The Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly and is independent of government. The Manitoba Advocate's statutory mandate includes representing the rights, interests, and viewpoints of children, youth, and young adults receiving any designated or reviewable services as described under The Advocate for Children and Youth Act. The Manitoba Advocate also reviews and reports upon the standards and quality of those reviewable and designated services provided to children, youth, and young adults who have died, to educate the public and to enhance the safety and well-being of Manitoba children, youth, and young adults.

Qualifications:
Essential Criteria:
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, demonstrated experience in a service field providing direct services to children, youth or young adults. An equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of provincial child and youth serving public systems including child and family services, youth justice, addictions, disabilities, mental health, education and victim support including associated regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ethical youth engagement practices and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
- Experience as a passionate advocate for children, youth and young adults including a proven ability to engage and support youth from diverse backgrounds individually and in a group setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including experience communicating with children, youth, families, community members and service providers.
- Understanding of the lives of Indigenous peoples and the aims and objectives of Indigenous communities as well as other diverse cultures to ensure the provision of culturally safe services to all children, youth and young adults.
- Experience with public speaking and providing presentations to diverse audiences.
Desired Criteria:
- Ability to communicate in one of Manitoba's Indigenous languages.
- Experience creating project-based budgets is an asset.
Duties:
Responsible for leading the Manitoba Advocates efforts to reach out to and engage youth throughout Manitoba in order to promote the work of the office, to educate youth about the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and their right to support under the Advocate for Children and Youth Act and to ensure that the efforts and activities of the office are responsive to the unique and changing needs of Manitoba's children and youth.
Supporting the Manitoba Advocates Youth Ambassador Advisory Squad (YAAS) which is a program that includes a team of volunteer youth with lived experience in the domains within MACY's mandate who provide their opinions, insights and feedback to the MACY office and other community service organizations on their programs, initiatives and public education materials.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with community-based youth serving organizations for the purpose of educating the public about the office and contributing to the offices outreach efforts.
The Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth is looking for candidates who are willing to work on a flexible schedule to cover office demands and when travelling for work related purposes.
