Youth Drop-in Coordinator

Title of Immediate Supervisor:
Director of Programs and Services

Position Mandate:

The Youth Drop-in Coordinator, alongside the Youth Program Coordinator, facilitates a welcoming

space that focuses on providing 2SLGBTQ+ youth with support and affirmation; to create social

change while learning valuable skills; and to increase self-esteem and self-confidence while

increasing social networks and social supports in our after-school drop-in programming.

Position Duties and Responsibilities


• Alongside the Youth Program Coordinator, facilitate the after-school drop-in for Youth

Program.


• Ensure youth are welcome and engaged in programming in a safe and non-judgmental

environment


• Set-up and take-down of programming, including, but not limited to light food

preparation, dishes, setting up programing stations, sweeping, etc.


• Supervise volunteers during Youth Programming.


• Complete relevant administrative functions and documentation (i.e. time sheets,

incident reports).


• Other related duties assigned by and negotiated with management.

Education:

Post-secondary education or a combination of relevant experience in a related field such as child

and youth care, recreation or community development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience


• Experience working with youth in a variety of settings. Work with 2SLGBTQ+ youth is an

asset.


• Demonstrated understanding of heterosexism, cissexism, racism, and other

oppressions and how they impact individuals, families, institutions, and communities


• Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma informed care


• Excellent group facilitation skills, conflict resolution skills, and interpersonal skills.


• Demonstrated awareness of community resources and appropriate 2SLGBTQ+ friendly

referrals.


• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in community organizing and outreach is an asset.

Working Conditions:


• This position's hours are generally the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays

of each month from 3:30 PM – 6:45 PM.


• This is a casual position. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on program needs.

Casual employees are not eligible for benefits and are covered by the Collective Agreement

only as outlined for casual employees.


• Employment is contingent on a Clear Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search,

and Child Abuse Registry Check (fees will be paid by Rainbow).

Salary:
$ $26.066 hourly
