Maple Villa Long Term Care is currently looking for a qualified Casual Part-Time Cook/Chef to join our team in a long-term care setting.

Shifts available on an as-needed basis (including weekends/holidays).

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, cooking , serving meals and assist in the nutritional services provided to the residents of our long-term care home.

This position reports directly to the Nutrition Manager and is an active member of the multidisciplinary team. All duties are carried out in accordance with the Long Term-Care Homes Act and regulations, Public Health regulations and our departmental policies and procedures.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Prepare, cook, and modify meals based on standardized recipes.
  • Production documentation and residents specific diet orders and preferences.
  • Maintain a sanitary and safe working environment using proper infection prevention and control methods through best practices in safety and sanitation.
  • Attend meetings and complete mandatory education as required.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new dietary staff, meal and snack service delivery, dining set up and clean up, volume dishwashing.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Must be actively enrolled in or have completed Chef Training or Culinary Management Diploma from an approved college.
  • Must have a Food Safety Handlers Certificate from the local Public Health Unit.
  • Experience in long-term care or institutional cooking/ high-volume kitchens considered an asset.
  • Must have understanding of good sanitation and food handling techniques.
  • Must be knowledgeable with respect to the nutritional and other appropriate needs of geriatric residents.
  • Must be knowledgeable with respect to legislation and ministry requirements
  • Will have a past work history and experience that demonstrates maturity, initiative, reliability, eagerness to learn and ability to work with other employees co-operatively and be able to follow directions.
  • Must have the ability to direct dietary functions during the absence of the Food Services Supervisor.
  • Possess a current police check within the vulnerable sector.
  • Will be in good physical and mental health, in order to tolerate constant standing and walking during working periods, able to lift and tolerate temperature changes.
