Role Summary:
The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) engages directly with business users, process owners and management, alongside the IT team, to provide technical and operational assessments of requirements and contribute to design processes for improving systems and business processes to deliver operational efficiency. This role ensures solutions meet business, regulatory, and quality standards ultimately driving a positive customer and employee experience. This individual works closely with business leaders and process owners to take our industry-leading operation to new levels of innovation, efficiency and flexibility and has overall accountability for business requirements gathering analysis and deliverables by owning full lifecycle of requirements and champions quality at every stage.
What you will be doing:
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of business processes, systems, and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and quality enhancement.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications and technical requirements ensuring they are testable and measurable.
- Identify and document non-functional requirements to ensure system reliability, scalability, performance and availability.
- Utilize deep knowledge of relevant domains, such as financial products, to develop solutions that meet regulatory and business requirements.
- Partner with developers and QA to ensure solutions are built right the first time participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and defect triage.
- Support and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by preparing scenarios, defining acceptance criteria, and validating that deliverables meet business expectations.
- Leverage QA best practices by integrating automated and manual testing strategies where possible, promoting early detection of defects.
- Actively contribute to Agile teams by developing user stories, defining success criteria, and ensuring alignment with business objectives through participation in Agile ceremonies.
- Collaborate with QA teams to implement and manage QA automation tools, integrating automated testing to enhance development lifecycle efficiency.
- Engage stakeholders across all levels to gather requirements, provide updates, and deliver solutions that address their needs, fostering effective communication and teamwork.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of business requirements, functional specifications, and project plans, and provide regular reports on project status, risks, issues and test evidence for management review.
- Recommend and implement solutions that meet stakeholder needs efficiently, continuously exploring opportunities for improvement and innovation.
- Perform data extraction, analysis, and management tasks, including data integrity checks, migration, and cleansing.
- Align business processes with organizational strategic goals, ensuring initiatives support overall objectives.
- Apply a structured Business Analysis methodologies and continuously seek opportunities to improve process efficiency and solution quality.
- Review, analyze, and optimize complex inter-departmental business processes, negotiating handoffs, controls, roles, and responsibilities to streamline operations and reduce inefficiencies.
- Lead design sessions to prototype and innovate new systems that enhance business processes.
- Support other projects and duties as assigned.
What you bring:
- 3+ years of BSA experience in waterfall and agile environments.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
- SQL is an asset.
- Proven experience as a Business Systems Analyst or similar role in complex technical environments.
- Strong understanding of Agile development processes, including methodologies like Scrum and Hybrid (Iterative Waterfall).
- Ability to write clear, testable requirements and collaborate closely with QA and development teams.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and business needs.
- Experience in UAT planning and execution, including test case creation and defect resolution support.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Experience with financial products or specific domains, such as RESPs.
