The Hospital for Sick Children is seeking a Finance Partner to join our Financial Accounting, Reporting & Planning team. In this position, you will report to the Manager, Finance, and you will be responsible for supporting the financial and reporting activities of SickKids related entities, including The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health (CCMH), Kids Health Alliance (KHA), and Boomerang Health. The primary responsibilities of this position include conducting monthly bookkeeping, preparing and analyzing financial statements, developing operating and capital budgets, and performing account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all reporting. Additionally, the role entails fostering strong relationships with external partners and providing analytical support to both operations and management to facilitate informed decision-making in real time.

Here's What You'll Get to Do

  • Lead and conduct month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses and financial reports
  • Prepare external financial reports, including submissions to the Ministry of Health and other funding agencies.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop their operating and capital budgets. Meet regularly with budget managers to help them understand their financial position, make forecast updates, and plan for the future.
  • Develop customized reports and visually impactful presentations for various stakeholders including monthly financial results presentations, reports on key performance indicators, etc.
  • Assist with the year-end close process, including preparing annual audit working papers, providing supporting documentation, and liaising with external auditors.
  • Work with collaborative groups both within and outside of finance to review processes, assess controls, examine system and process issues, present recommendations for improvement, and manage the implementation of operational changes.
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities, challenge the status quo and discuss efficient process changes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
  • Develop and maintain financial reports, primarily using Adaptive Insights, PeopleSoft, QlikView and excel-based models.

Here's What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Recognized accounting designation (i.e. CPA) or successful completion of the final examination leading to a recognized accounting designation.
  • Minimum 3 years of financial accounting experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Ability to design, prepare, and analyze financial reports.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with department managers, external auditors and all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, self-motivated, proactive, results-oriented and able to deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to working in team-based environments.
  • Passion for process simplification and improvement.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Assets

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Sage, Adaptive Insights, and/or PowerBI.
  • Prior experience with indirect tax (GST/HST filings, Public Service Bodies, Rebate).
  • Prior experience within the public sector and sound knowledge of PSAB and not-for-profit accounting standards.
  • External audit experience with a national accounting firm.
