Join a dynamic team as a Contract Senior Geologist specializing in oil sands geoscience, where your expertise will drive production optimization and reservoir integrity across key SAGD assets in Alberta.

Role Overview

  • Support short- and long-term development plans, including well execution, surveillance, and production optimization.
  • Provide geological properties for production forecasting and contribute to regulatory applications.
  • Drive workflow optimization projects to enhance geoscience and reservoir engineering processes.
  • Conduct resource assessments using integrated datasets to support production forecasts throughout the SAGD pad lifecycle.
  • Generate innovative ideas for redevelopment of producing areas to deliver incremental value.
  • Interpret observation well programs and analyze steam chamber core results.
  • Collaborate with geophysicists to interpret 4D seismic data and integrate insights into geological models.
  • Characterize reservoirs using all geoscience datasets to refine geological models.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to troubleshoot production and steam trends.
  • Monitor reservoir integrity and containment issues proactively.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Well Planning: Expertise in planning horizontal wells.
  • SAGD Knowledge: Strong understanding of SAGD processes and production forecasting.
  • Technical Competency: Advanced skills in geoscience disciplines with integration across multiple domains.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Communication: Strong skills in conveying complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

Education & Experience

  • Professional Geologist designation with APEGA or APEGS accreditation.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in geoscience roles, preferably in SAGD thermal or enhanced oil recovery.
  • Experience in horizontal well planning and execution is an asset.
