Position Summary:  

Under the daily supervision of the Urban Justice Manager and the overall direction of the Director of Justice, the Reintegration Case Worker will be responsible for the delivery of services for female adult relatives (clients) that are referred to īkwēskīcik iskwēwak Program from Pine Grove Correctional Centre. This position will provide support to incarcerated relatives and their family members by developing individualized case plans based on their criminogenic risk factors. This position will connect relatives to resources and support while incarcerated and in the community will reduce recidivism and ensures post-sentence success.

Responsibilities:

  • Case manages the activities and functions of an assigned caseload of female relatives;
  • Maintain relative case files and records that track the progress of individual relatives' successful integration of family with supports and services and successful training interventions including the use of the client database(s) and other tracking tools;
  • Participate in the planning of the STC programming that complements the relatives' case plan;
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to assigned relatives and serve as a positive role model in the community;
  • Assist in obtaining community support and resources for housing, employment, education, culture, family reunification, etc. that would aid in their transition from custody to the community;
  • Encourage and support relatives in seeking addiction services and treatment programs;
  • Collaborate with other STC programs and staff as well as external agencies to provide appropriate support for the relative and family;
  • Collaborate with other STC departments to facilitate workshops and/or group sessions;
  • Engage relatives, their families, and other community members in restoring harmony and promoting healing in a culturally sensitive manner;
  • Work with the relatives and their families to integrate back into their community;
  • Prepare all reports necessary to ensure relatives' case management and follow-up in an efficient, effective and timely manner as determined by the supervisor;
  • Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as-and-when-required basis. 

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in a human service-related field. 
  • Minimum of three years experience in a related field.
  • A combination of skills, education, and life learning experiences may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of contemporary and historical barriers for Indigenous peoples.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, both historical and contemporary Indigenous issues, with the emphasis being on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, and community outreach. 
  • An energetic self-starting person who displays initiative and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential as well as experience conducting presentations to large groups;
  • Knowledge of the community resources within the City of Saskatoon. Capable of developing an inventory of services to coordinate, monitor, and support individuals in accessing services, including but not limited to: housing, addictions, mental health, legal, leisure, education, and employment;
  • Excellent time management skills with planning and scheduling of relative interviews and work-related responsibilities;
  • Excellent technology, computer experience, and knowledge of databases and Microsoft Office Suite are necessary.
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System including corrections and the Provincial Court process.
  • Knowledge of the political, social, and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset.

Other Work Conditions: 

  • On-call work is required;
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends;
  • Travel is required;
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and meet STC's insurance requirements. 
  • Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CCRC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
