The Data & Analytics team with a Large Sporting Organization is looking for a Data Product Owner with experience in building data products from the ground up. This role will play an integral part in driving fan growth & engagement as we continue to expand the League as a global property, supporting our international business. This leader will partner and collaborate with stakeholders across the League & Clubs to define the strategy and execution roadmap to deliver data products that drive business outcomes.
The successful candidate would demonstrate an established background in data, good technical depth, excellent product/project management skills, superb communication and stakeholder management skills, and the motivation to achieve tangible results in a dynamic environment. They will be responsible for leading a team of data product analysts, working cross-functionally with team members across data management, to ensure optimal resource allocation to deliver the highest return.
Location: Greater Toronto Area, ON (Remote)
Status: Contract
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to shape the D&A vision/roadmap and steer cross-functional pods in delivering data products to support analytics and BI
- Be a steward of the league's international data assets, maximizing use to support business outcomes
- Work in an agile environment, continuously reviewing business needs, prioritizing and maintaining the backlog, refining roadmaps, planning sprints and identifying opportunities and risks
- Provide hands-on leadership in facilitating design sessions and drive decision making while balancing short-term benefits vs. long-term strategic outlook
- Support cross-functional pods in the clarification of requirements and features along with the DoD and acceptance criteria
- Partner with engineering leaders to balance the delivery of product features that drive the business vs. platform foundational capabilities that drive scalability and resiliency
- Build a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and high performance. Assign tasks based on skills, strength and the learning & development needs of pod members
- Advocate for the highest standards of technical and operational excellence. Ensure we're building highly scalable and repeatable capabilities in the best manner possible
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience in a product owner, delivery lead or team lead capacity
- 5+ years of relevant experience in leading the development of data products, cloud data platforms, data lakes or data warehouses
- Proficient in SQL
- Proven track record of delivering impactful products to market, enabling stakeholder use cases
- Vast experience in software development life cycle, agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
- Excellent knowledge of Jira and Confluence
- Strong detail orientation, communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this role
- Ability to effectively liaise with all levels across the organization
- A team player and self-starter
