The Fundy Harbour Group of companies is a locally owned and managed Saint John enterprise in the real estate sector. We specialize in real estate development, construction and property management. Our companies are growing and expanding by taking on a variety of large-scale projects including our Saint John City Hall refurbishment and the Fundy Quay Waterfront Project. Currently we are seeking a highly skilled and talented Property Accountant. Working for this company you will be a part of a team who take pride in developing, constructing, and operating real estate assets to the highest possible standard.
The successful candidate will have accounting experience, preferably in the real estate sector, and the ability to work with owners, executives and managers to provide accurate financial analysis and information. Duties and responsibilities
- Financial Management:
- Work within the established processes of the accounting and financial operations of the real estate portfolio, including budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Monitor project cash flows, prepare financial reports, and provide insights to support decision-making.
- General Ledger and Journal Entries:
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, and amortization.
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts for multiple properties, projects, and entities.
- Assist with issuing invoices and purchase orders, as well as paying consultants, subcontractors, vendors and suppliers.
- Financial Statements:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for properties, and investment portfolios for executive decision making.
- Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal tax regulations
- Assist/prepare filing of income, excise, and payroll tax returns.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and the Controller to create and monitor project budgets.
- Assist with preparation of contracts according to stakeholder requirements and reporting associated budget amendments.
- Assist with financial projections and support for decision-making processes.
- Audits and Compliance:
- Assist with the facilitation of internal and external audits by maintaining organized financial records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific accounting standards and best practices in both real estate and construction.
- Financial Software and Tools:
- Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) to manage financial records and transactions.
- Stay updated on industry-specific software tools and best practices for real estate and construction accounting.
- Communication:
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support their decision-making processes.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with finance team, stakeholders and work collaboratively with all companies to promote the company's policies and procedures while helping to implement best practice in the field of finance.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
- Experience in real estate development, property management, and/or construction industries would also be an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, directors, vendors, staff, external partners, consultants and clients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, QuickBooks, ProCore and other financial software programs.
