Course Number and Title: JCI250H1S – Italian Canadian Communities

Course Description: This course examines the past and present settlement patterns of those of Italian descent in Canada, in rural areas and cities, including increasing suburbanization. Students will address issues such as work and employment and political participation. Challenges and opportunities will be examined, with respect to issues such as migration, community-formation, state policies, social services, networks and discrimination.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree completed or direct entry to Ph.D. underway, with comparable or equivalent experience to the completion of a Master's degree in Social Sciences or Humanities.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in progress or completed either in Canadian Studies or any cognate field or discipline with a preference for Social Science approaches to Italian community-formation (including, but not limited to Sociology, Geography, Politics, etc.). Demonstrated teaching and research expertise on issues relating to Italian Canadian communities is preferred. Demonstrated evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching is preferred. 

Description of Duties: Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
