Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be an energetic team-player with experience managing project teams. Specifically Mechanical design teams working in institutional, healthcare, municipal, commercial and industrial facilities.
Your responsibilities will include all aspects of design and analyses, including mechanical system selection, assist with engineering analysis, evaluations, designs, and implementation of electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review project specifications, and lead a design team in preparing drawings and schematics for institutional, healthcare, municipal, commercial, and industrial facilities.
- Liaise with clients and consultants to define and refine project scope.
- Perform building systems analysis and design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for projects of varying size and complexity.
- Document and communicate project scope clearly to all design team members.
- Coordinate mechanical requirements with Senior Electrical Engineers/Designers and external consultants.
- Collaborate closely with clients, architects, interior designers, and other consultants throughout project development.
- Prepare fee proposals, cost estimates, tender documents, and ensure alignment with office standards.
- Oversee and review load calculations.
- Ensure all plans and specifications comply with applicable codes, engineering best practices, and project requirements.
- Communicate project requirements clearly to both internal and external teams.
- Work collaboratively with project teams during construction, providing technical responses and support as needed.
- Supervise intermediate and junior engineers, designers, and CAD operators.
- Assign tasks to technical and administrative support staff.
- Manage internal and external coordination, including document control and quality assurance.
- Demonstrate a full understanding of construction procurement methods and apply this knowledge to active projects.
- Promote and enforce company standards related to administration, documentation, and processes.
- Conduct site reviews and attend project meetings with clients as required.
- Stamp and sign drawings for client submissions.
- Mentor and support the development of engineering and design team members.
Requirements
Education and Licensing:
- Licensed professional engineer (P.Eng)
- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a College Diploma such as Mechanical Engineering Technology
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and applicable CSA, ULC, NFPA, and ASHRAE codes and standards.
- Proficiency with design tools, techniques, and software used in producing technical plans and drawings (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Familiarity with construction practices and procurement processes.
- Ability to work independently on complex institutional, industrial, municipal, healthcare, and commercial engineering projects.
- Capability to perform routine construction tasks, site surveys, and field work.
- Strong ability to liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Initiative, a proactive approach to project challenges, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Desire to work in person within a collaborative team environment.

Commensurate with experience.
