Salary range for this position is $87,000.00 – $101,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. What You’ll Do We are looking for a mechanical engineer/designer who has a clear understanding of design and construction document processes, is adaptable to short‑term and long‑term projects, and is motivated to grow professionally. As a member of the mechanical design team you will be responsible for all phases of mechanical design production for Life Sciences, Nuclear and National Security projects from programming through construction administration, with opportunities to participate in facility commissioning. Job Description Participate as part of the mechanical design team and multi‑disciplinary project team, executing detailed mechanical, plumbing/process and controls design of complex mechanical facilities, including: Detailed engineering calculations Production of detailed 3D models and construction drawings Specifications Reports as required Perform site inspection, testing and commissioning of equipment and facilities as required, which may include travel within Canada and abroad Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients and other employees Develop and maintain expert level knowledge of applicable codes and standards for the design and construction of nuclear and biocontainment facilities in Canada and internationally, as required Develop and maintain expert level skills in required software packages, including REVIT Execute all work in accordance with Merrick and project‑specific Quality Assurance procedures Exercise excellent independent judgement and initiative to complete design tasks Work independently and in a team environment based on Merrick’s hybrid arrangement (office, remote and onsite work) Required Qualifications Mechanical engineer/designer with experience in mechanical building design for government, academic and private clients; experience in HVAC, plumbing/process, fire protection and controls design is a preferred asset. Minimum five (5) years related experience; preferred eight (8) years. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or another Canadian jurisdiction is preferred; if not licensed, must demonstrate a plan to obtain licensure within two years and hold a CEAB‑accredited Mechanical engineering degree. Experience in mechanical building design including planning, calculations, equipment selection, schematic design, production of construction documents and construction administration. Laboratory design and construction knowledge is an advantage. Experience in energy modelling and life‑cycle cost analysis for sustainability design is an asset. Proficient in REVIT and AutoCAD. Proficient in report writing (basis of design reports, specifications, field reports, etc.). Strong verbal, writing and presentation skills; effective problem‑solving skills applying mechanical design principals. Must be able to travel and possess a current passport. Canadian citizenship is required. Work at job sites will be required, including active construction and commissioning efforts; access to/from elevated areas, functional operational equipment and donning of appropriate PPE.
