GIS Data Operations Team Lead

The purpose of this position is to support the end-to-end data operations and team; from onboarding new sales orders to cloud-based data processing and delivery, including a seasonal team of student co-ops. Additionally, to support operational requirements of other departments during seasonal changes in business operations. This is a contract position for approximately 17 months.
Contract term
: Jan 12, 2026 – May 29, 2027; start date can be flexible
Successful applicants have the following education and experience:
- Experience managing people and teams.
- Analytical, results-oriented, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Academic and/or professional experience with GIS systems and software (E.g. QGIS, ArcGIS).
- Post-Secondary degree from a recognized educational institution.
Responsibilities of the GIS Data Operations Team Lead:
- Manage the end-to-end image processing pipeline including workflow and personnel assignments for all full-time team members, seasonal team members, and 3rd party partners.
- Maintain company expectations for all commercial data deliveries as they relate to VineView standard service levels for: delivery times, quality, and productivity.
- Recruit, train, manage, and support all direct reports on the Data Analytics Team. This includes ensuring members of the Data Analytics Team are well positioned to work independently and have all the necessary tools to work effectively while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. This also includes conducting annual performance reviews and providing feedback to your team members throughout the year and reporting any issues to your people manager.
- Submit funding requests and conduct interviews for hiring summer team of co-op students (CEI, SWPP, IRAP/Youth Employment Program, etc.)
- Lead Data Analytics team huddles and attend key meetings of other departments.
- Communicate with FlightOps to ensure timely uploads and flight schedules aligned with client requests.
- Communicate with remote sensing, software, and R&D teams to address production problems.
- Aid in processing (onboarding, order creation, image QA, data labeling, special requests) when needed.
- Provide client support and technical training in relation to GIS products and VineView software and respond to client inquiries in a timely manner.
- Ensure timely updates for all reporting responsibilities to Senior Management (SRED, Operations, IRAP, etc.), including workload and resource planning for operations.
- Identify and implement improvements to data analysis processes.
- Support the implementation of the Quality Management System and the development and introduction of new data products and services.
- Support other VineView teams, as required (e.g. sales, marketing, R&D, software, etc.).
- Other related duties, as required.
