Salary range for the position is $155,327 to $232,992. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
The Executive Director, Workplace Health and Safety is responsible and accountable for the development of workplace health and safety (WHS) strategies for Interior Health (IH), guiding the organization's overall approach to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of WHS services. The Executive Director will translate provincial mandates and IH-wide direction into operational strategies, while working with leaders across the organization to ensure the smooth integration of service delivery.
The Executive Director provides senior leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of systems and processes to enhance WHS strategies, employee health and wellness programs, and prevention functions, and will play a key role in the standardization and performance monitoring of practices, policies, and procedures to ensure they are in accordance with legislative, contractual, and organizational standards.
Externally, the Executive Director fosters and influences the organization's relationships with the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC), government agencies, other Health Authorities, trade unions, special interest groups, and members of the public in matters related to WHS practices.
What will you work on:
Accountable for providing IH leadership and direction in the development, implementation, and evaluation of efficient and effective WHS strategies that meet the current and future needs of employees and leaders as well as supports the organization's operational and strategic objectives.
Provides leadership and guidance to employees using effective management techniques; coaches and mentors employees; conducts performance evaluations and creates a learning environment that promotes and supports professional growth of all employees; participates in recruitment activities and makes hiring and discipline decisions.
Directs the operations of Workplace Health and Safety across the health authority; recruits and retains senior management staff and maintains a structure for the portfolios that provides the highest level of quality service within budget parameters.
Ensures that strategic planning, operational planning, and evaluation are focused on continuous quality improvement and that initiatives anticipate and respond to changes in workplace health and safety standards, collective agreement language, and provincial legislation.
Accountable to ensure the organization's overall strategic approach supports increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of workplace health and safety resources.
Accountable for the implementation of short- and long-term plans, change management, policy development, and operational requirements to ensure our people are supported in a physically and psychologically safe work environment.
Continuously seeks opportunities to incorporate research, data and client feedback into new or changing models while improving timeliness, cost efficiency, compliance and consistency of systems and processes.
Provides key leadership representation of IH at the provincial tables, which includes reporting on implementation progress and risks, and ensuring deliverables are communicated appropriately.
Responsible for the management of financial resources and processes to meet project goals and ensure stewardship of resources.
In alignment with IH's Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:
- A Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Ten to Fifteen or more years of human resources/corporate experience including leadership in complex healthcare environments.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

- Ability to assess complex situations, determine impact, recommend solutions, and implement change.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing and verbally including the presentation of reports, strategy papers, and briefing notes.
- Uses sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources of assigned projects/services in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization.
- Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and provide client-focused services.
- Works independently and effectively under time pressure, balancing priorities to meet deadlines and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to adapt readily to rapid and changing environments and respond with initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage change and quality improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on improving service delivery through the use of alternative strategies.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
