About Us:
Family Place ) is a non-profit, charitable organization that exists to provide a comprehensive range of free pre and postnatal, family support, parent education, and child development programs and services to families with children from conception to 12 years living in East Prince County and PEI. Particular focus is aimed at reducing barriers to accessing services and reaching families who are experiencing additional life challenges.
About our Reggio Kids Pre-K Program:
We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach which values, respects, and challenges young children while nurturing their curiosity, creativity, and relationships. We value parents as the first and most important teachers of their children, the importance of community, open-ended play and inquiry, and the ever-evolving interests of the child.
We use a variety of authentic play materials including 'intelligent materials' and 'loose parts' which are primarily recycled and natural materials that have the power to bring about complex play and transient creations, can be moved around, tinkered with, designed and redesigned, and provide endless opportunities for creative engagement and inquiry.
Transitions are kept to a minimum so that we can embrace the gift of time and allow the students to become invested in meaningful play, explorations, processes, interactions with open-ended materials, and socially engaging with their peers and teachers. Our work and all that we do is driven by curiosity, wonderment, joy, and connection.
More About The Employment Opportunity:
You will be given the opportunity to support children and their families to reach their full potential and to succeed and thrive. You will support families to help them by providing opportunities for them to learn, develop social networks, and access concrete support and appropriate upstream family-centered programs and services.
In addition, you will support our Reggio Kids Early Years Centre programming (Pre-K, Preschool, Infant and Toddler programs) serving children aged infant-5 years old. Our team includes a program director, six certified early childhood educators, a chef, support staff and special needs assistants. Our outstanding teacher-student ratio helps to make our program both rich in learning opportunities and tailored to each child.
Through the adoption of a strength-based empowerment model, you will partner with families and communities to meet expressed needs. With training, support, and mentorship, you will focus on the promotion of wellness and the use of upstream (preventative) programs and services. You will do this by using an ecological lens which recognizes the interdependent nature of individuals, families, and communities and the impacts of the social determinants of health. Finally, you will work to strengthen resiliency to help improve the physical, mental, social, and intellectual health and well-being of individuals (infants, children, and adults), families, and communities.
