Located in Owen Sound and reporting to the Manager, School College Partnerships, the incumbent develops and delivers courses in the dual credit program.
Hand and Power Tools (CABT1010) Fridays, 10 – 1 February 13 – May 22
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Delivers Hand and Power Tools (CABT1010) in the dual credit program.
In this course students are introduced to hand and power tools required for the cabinetmaking trade. Students learn to identify, explain and demonstrate the procedure for the care and safe use of a variety of hand and power tools that are appropriate for a given task.
Course Content:
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Band saws
- Drill Presses
- Layout tools
- Boring and cutting tools
- Fastening, gluing, and clamping tools
- Sanders
- Saws, drills, and drivers
- Planes, routers, and plate joiners
- Jointers and thickness planers
Table saws and panel saws
- Developing and delivering appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives.
- Incorporating a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs.
- Evaluating student progress / achievement.
- Participating in program and college activities as required.
- Participating in program revision and renewal activities as required.
- Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of college diploma in Construction Engineering Technology or equivalent, or college certificate in Cabinetmaking Techniques, Construction Techniques or Renovation and Carpentry Techniques
- Certificate of Qualification in Cabinetmaking would be considered an asset
- A minimum of five years' experience in a variety of capacities within the cabinetmaking industry and in-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it relates to the safe operation of hand and power tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safe work culture, life-long learning, and continuous quality improvement
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
- Computer literacy: MS Office along with a high comfort level with learning new software such as student learning management systems and various teaching delivery applications
- Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery and evaluation strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
- Teaching and Training Adults certification and/or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
- Experience teaching and/or working with high school aged youth is an asset
