We have an opening for an in-house mechanic specializing in small engines and fleet vehicle maintenance. Under the direction of Managers you will be responsible for a variety of mechanical tasks. We are a COR certified company and believe safety is paramount.

In this position you will be performing skilled tasks such as the mechanical repair and maintenance of company equipment, as well as assisting with medium to heavy duty equipment. The main focus is on the repair and maintenance of company equipment, trucks and small engines including blowers, trimmers, lawn maintenance equipment and winter snow removal equipment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Repair and maintenance of equipment and commercial trucks.
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks
  • Complete small engine repairs.
  • Determine parts required for repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure the timely performance of repairs and maintenance based on the direction and schedule created by the Manager or supervisor.
  • Inspect equipment and ensure adherence to necessary mechanical and safety requirements.
  • Trailer repairs and maintenance
  • Dispose of failed and replaced material and parts.
  • Fill out maintenance reports and other required documentations.
  • Anticipate potential mechanical issues and make recommendations.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the shop.
  • Clean and organize company's tools and equipment and ensure that all are accounted for.
  • Provide excellent customer service to drivers, managers, field employees, sub-contractors and other applicable staff.
  • Willingness and ability to assist and complete repairs on medium to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
  • Obtain and/or delivers parts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisors or manager.

Required Skills:

  • High Mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of gas as well as diesel engines
  • Physically able to handle weight of up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate technical requirements to technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Able to read, write and make necessary numerical calculations.
  • Proven decision making and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with job task planning and organizing.
  • Reliable, punctual and a team player, willing to work overtime when required.
  • Open to continuous learning.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • CSA approved steel toed work boots
  • Demonstrate an aptitude and ability to diagnose and trouble shoot of repairs to engines and equipment.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Mechanic.
  • Class 5 driver's license required (no restrictions) with a clean or near clean driver's abstract
  • Class 3 driver's license would be an asset.
  • Completion of vocational or technical training credentials in the Technician/Mechanic Trade.
  • Inter-provincial Red Seal designation is considered an asset.
  • Automotive apprentices welcome.
