QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Addiction & Mental Health Worker Diploma required
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a health, human or social services discipline an asset
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) required
  • Recent (2 to 3 years) mental health experience in a clinical setting required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and specialized training in Mental Health, Crisis Intervention models, Community services, Best Practices in Mental Health required
  • Recent or previous experience working with community resources, agencies and other service providers required
  • Experience with supporting individuals affected by a variety of crises including loss, violence, abuse, crime and traumatic events required
  • Demonstrated experience with managing aggressive behaviour and superior de-escalation techniques required
  • Demonstrated experience with trauma assessment and treatment practices required
  • Experience with suicide assessment and intervention required
  • Advanced Crisis Intervention and Counselling Certificate and/or related certifications an asset
  • Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) certification an asset
  • Understanding of the legal and ethical issues in crisis intervention practice required

Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to advocate and refer patients to appropriate resources required
- Demonstrated experience on applicable crisis management theories, approaches and strategies required
- Ability to perform effectively in the crisis field and apply/practice crisis management in a safe and non-threatening environment required
- Demonstrated ability to manage and support a 24/7 crisis phone line and service required
- Proven ability to work independently as well as a member of the team
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Good attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced Level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
