Position

Superintendent, Underground Development, Nunavut

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Manager, Underground Mining, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

• Lead all underground mining activities, including development and production, drilling and blasting, mucking, haulage, ground support, construction, and backfill.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate underground work to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
• Lead, mentor, and develop underground Mine Captains, Supervisors, and crews, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Lead daily and weekly planning meetings and ensure operational forecasts are achievable.
• Manage underground contractors, including development and production contractors, ensuring safety, schedule, quality, and cost expectations are met.
• Contribute to operating cost control, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
• Support mine commissioning, ramp-up, and transition to steady-state operations.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

• Minimum of ten (10) years of underground mining experience, combined with three (3) years of underground leadership experience, preferably at remote, fly-in / fly-out mine sites.
• Demonstrated leadership competencies with the ability to motivate and the drive to develop a high performing team.
• Experience with all aspects of underground mining including development, production, construction, and backfill.
• Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, diploma in mining technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid WSCC Underground Supervisor Level II and valid First Aid certification preferred.
• Experience supporting new mine startup, commissioning, or ramp-up is considered an asset.
• Proficient computer literacy, including familiarity with MS Office, operational reporting software, and SAP.

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the annual salary for this role is $207,000.00 plus 15% bonus.
